summing up my summer 2011

Summer 2011 was awesome. So many things have happened. It was uplifting in that I learned a number of things, as well, as did some fun stuff. I traveled, I partied, I had a great time! Here’s the run down.

Work:
I had my internship at the United Nations. There are some departments, which are more competitive than others. I cannot really speak for every department, but practically speaking I assume departments that have more prestige (like working with the Judges) are more difficult to get.
As an intern, I was given several different responsibilities, some of them having nothing to do with each other. Being flexible and open to change was key in fitting well into this organization. While there was a wide range of tasks assigned, there were also some routine tasks to be completed every week. Regardless of how silly some work may seem (i.e: photocopy a book) do it quickly and do it correctly. The expectations were high, the workload immense, the time short and the experience remarkable. I am sad to leave  but confident I have indeed learned a great deal. I've really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the company and the wonderful people I've worked alongside. I hope there is a possibility of full-time employment 3-5 years from now.

More justice than injustice, more freed men than imprisoned, a higher number of feeding humans than starving, and more peaceful nations than war-torn.

Last day of my summer internship. Pinaghanda pa nila ako. :
-)
Trips:
Lucban, Quezon
 Pahiyas Festival

Kawit, Cavite
Watercamp Resorts

Tagaytay
Visited the  Madrigal mansion which was bought by Willie.

School:
Photoshoot
Office of External Affairs

Social life:
Tita Lenore's 48th birthday

Night out at Uncle Cheffy

Tito Manny's burial

New Family members:
My cat Mimi gave birth to 2 adorable kittens on 2nd pregnancy
Meet Borgy which I bought from the pet store yesterday

And the highlight of my summer
My adopted baby sister :bib21:
She's a royal pain in the ass. Buti na lang ang cute-cute nya. hahaha
I'm a big sister now!

The school day is rapidly approaching and it's back to homework and all that dumb shit again. This time is associated with extra anxiety:bib1:
When summer begins, it seems like it will last forever. But you only have a few days left at this point, so take advantage.

I'll be cheering you on as you go!

90's Pinoy Teen Idol: Hunks Edition

Before celebrities like Piolo Pascual, Enchong Dee, Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca, and John Lloyd Cruz became household names, actors like Rico Yan, Aga Muhlach, and Richard Gomez used to rule the small and silver screens!

As a female child of the 90s,
Here is my squealing, giddy side of the teen idol story:

Red Stenberg
I remember him from the movie It's Cool Bulol with Rica Peralejo. And T.G.I.S on GMA. Red’s character Kiko was the life of the party on T.G.I.S., his cheery nature and endless supply of jokes a constant source of joy for the rest of the barkada. Red’s mischievous smile gained him a lot of fans throughout the years, and people enjoyed watching his character get into trouble onscreen. While Red may have quietly disappeared from the showbiz scene, his stint as Kiko will always occupy a special place in T.G.I.S. viewers' hearts.

Eric Fructuoso
This Gwaping’s awesome hip hop dance moves are his claim to fame. Back in the ‘90s, he and the other Gwapings started the How Gee? dance craze, and Eric did it best! Besides being a comedic actor (he was a Bubble Gang mainstay), he’s also starred in several teleseryes on ABS-CBN, the most recent one being the upcoming Nasaan Ka Elisa?.
He's already in his late thirties, but he was still hot.

Jeric Raval
I had not heard of  Jeric Raval before. (How come I didn't know him?) It is only now, perhaps after a decade that I appreciated his leather and naive image.
I was on the bus on my way home from work. The bus conductor put out a dvd. The beginning of the movie: Ogie, Keempee, Zoren, and some other dudes doing some antics on the beach. Blah blah blah blah.. At the back of my head, I'm like Punyemas! Just when I am about to close my eyes (usually I fall asleep while traveling in a bus) The middle-aged woman sitting beside me got so KILIG! "Ang gwapo ni Jeric.!" I'm pissed... Then pagtingin ko sa tv, a guy sporting a black cap, black bomber jacket- it's Jeric Raval.. The drool-worthy man.
Well, I'm undoubtedly attracted to him, at the very least. And he’s intrinsically a part of the 90’s.

A special thanks to Adie, he bought me a 20-in-1 Tagalog dvd.
Typical Filipino Action movies
  • People involve wears Leather Jacket/ Long Sleeves Shirt.
  • Several Suntokan/ Stunt Scene.
  • Car Chase scene usually Done on a Wide Space road.
  • The protagonists of action movies about guns, goons, and gold Pinoy style, with beautiful leading ladies gunning for their affection.

Have you ever wondered, how there are no longer action films being shown among Philippine cinemas? (Just a thought that I pondered.)

Some remain famous and others have faded into obscurity, but they're forever ingrained in my memories as teen idols. In some cases, their likenesses are still attached to the walls of our childhood rooms, cementing their stardom for posterity. Believe me, if I could plaster my current walls with old foldouts of Jeric Raval and Eric Fructuoso, I would. Really. I still drool over them anyway.

A short clip from the movie Valentin Zapanta, another movie I've seen during my bus ride going home. Sadly, Jeric's character was shot and killed. Boo!!

A new beginning, Same old me

My first job interview
Job interviews are hard because you really don’t know what questions to anticipate and in order to give the best impression ever, you have to reply quickly.
I’ve been called in for a face-to-face job interview in the United Nations. I arrived 1 hour before the interview. Sweaty palms and butterflies in my stomach.
The first question that was posed to me was to tell what I expect from the company.
Made a few mistakes along the way. I wish I could turn back the hands of time & fix it.
1. Being too modest.
2. Didn't talk enough- I felt like I was pulling teeth to answer.
3. I stuttered.
4. I said "uhmm" a little too much.
5. I didn't make any handwritten thank-you note or polite email to the interviewer and HR Head expressing gratitude for their time and consideration.
But overall, it went quite well. I walked away from the interview with a job.
I just felt like announcing to the world.

My first TBS as 4SCL
Held at Real Cove Resort-near Antipolo
Our team-building seminars are designed to foster a spirit of teamwork and to help individuals work more effectively as members of a group.
Tiring,  nonetheless still Fun.

My first day at work
Congrats! I beat the competition and snagged my job.
So how did it go? For one, I'd say it was more productive than I have ever been. Haha!  My office is located at RCBC PLaza, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Makati CityRCBC Plaza is the biggest and most modern office development in the Philippines today. Plus it's just a walking distance away from Glorietta and Greenbelt.
My work day begins when I leave the house. Waking up in the morning and having truly no idea what the day will bring, but sensing it will be new and exciting. As a shy and socially awkward girl. I showed up 30 minutes early to my very first day of work. Just in case.
Unlike some corporate jobs where you might be looking for something to do (or not), there was no shortage of work to be done with my first day.  I started off by printing names.. After that, I moved on to working (and continue to) to help people from HR. The workplace is stressful; employees are often swamped with work, myself included.
Bottom line: I loved it. The day flew by and, from start to finish, my new colleagues were friendly, helpful and made me feel like I’d already worked at the United Nations for years.
I feel so grown up. I feel so mature. I feel that I'm where I need to be.
Oh and this might have had something to do with that productivity.

I’ve always been progressive in my thinking. I’m always in anticipation on what’s coming next. Sometimes, I might plan ahead too far.
Remain strong in your faith, no matter how many mistakes God's children make along the way of growing up, they are still destined for Grace and eternal Joy.

Anyway, Lent really flew past. It's Holy Week already, Maundy Thursday to be precise. Holy Week is probably the only time when Metro Manila comes closest to being a ghost town. Almost everybody is out there in the provinces in this long holiday to visit their hometowns and relatives, go swimming and island-hopping–basically personifying the very dynamics of a vacationer. The Lent is supposed to be the time for reflection, repentance and spiritual assessment. Us Filipinos call this ngilay-ngilay.

25 Years of Filipino Epic Fail Democracy

Two of the most popular types of democracy are the presidential and parliamentary government systems.

Regardless of whether or not I believe this in its entirety, it's a cool vid.

Do Philippines needs Charter Change? How should Congress vote in charter change? Do you feel like a stranger in your own country? What did it add to what you already know about the issue? Which form of government do you think will suit best for the Philippines?
Presidential or parliamentary government?  Aren't you tired of the debate and the brawling between the administration and the opposition?
Watch and share your thoughts with the rest of us.
