The Madness of Toro

    The Madness of Toro
   July 30 - August 9, 2012
Toro's First Solo Exhibit

The Madness of Toro
is rooted in the artist’s declaration of breaking free from society’s expectations. This first solo exhibit marks the rebirth of someone who has shaken off his shackles and creatively claimed for himself a new life—the life of Toro—an artist.

Toro is a late bloomer, and art is his passion. He expresses his innermost feelings and vision through paint and canvas.  Toro’s works are often described as gestural abstract expressionist or action painting. Each piece is a gesture on the canvas—a liberation from political, aesthetic, and moral values.

For boys who can dance

Moviegoers can't get enough of male flesh dancing on the big screen and  I'm not exempt from that. I really find men who can dance attractive. So, why don't we bide our time with a hotness list commemorating the foxy and hard-stepping male dancers. It's really a good idea. I have to tell you, this was a difficult list to contrive. Also, we gotta love Hollywood for its abundant eye candy!  There's no doubt about that.

Ricky Malambri
Abs Breen
Joe Slaughter
I'm gonna steal you away from Jenna
Rynan Paguio
Yes, K Fed is on my list
Chris Jones
Robert Hoffman

Though they didn't make it on my Hot male dancers list let's not forget Chad Smith, Rain, Adam Sevani, Pasha Kovalev, Chris Brown and Lil Fizz for their versatile dancing and fantastic performances.

Cinemalaya 2012

Bey and I managed to watch two film entries: Oros and Mga Dayo. In Oros, a funeral parlor owner sells an unidentified body to Makoy, a kasero in a saklaan, who, along with his reluctant brother, Abet, set the stage for a three-week long fake wake holding the illegal saklaan.  Abet, in dirty rags but sill charming. Btw, is Kristoffer Martin related to Coco Martin? they both have a striking resemblance. Irritating shaky-camera is excessive only to feel dizzy in this movie. Needs further editing. Looking at it as a whole, isn't a particularly memorable film, but it's not all that bad either. It didn’t give me the thrills that I expected. I was hoping for many unnerving and gruesome scenes. The ending, which is completely predictable.

While Mga Dayo, as the island of Guam celebrates the classic American holiday, the lives of the three Filipina immigrants intersect and find themselves at a tug‐o‐war of sacrifice and significance on where they must find their home or must they find it somewhere else. I didn't like it. It was so flat, tedious, untwisted and woefully boring.  A bad movie can still make you cry, laugh, angry but this film did not give me the option, the freedom, of actually feeling anything. Obviously, this film lack effective techniques to naturally make the viewer feel the emotion that the director intentionally planned for them.  It didn't make me feel any sympathy for the characters. It just irks me. There is also a constant blurring in the film. The whole storyline leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and probably in most viewers'. I don’t think anyone can say that this ended well. If you want a well-developed story line, don't bother.

why hast thou failed me?

A day trip escape

We made a two hour drive to Aya Del Sol Beach Resort in Talisay, Batangas. The resort owners are actually good friends of my family. We were invited for a day trip at the resort. A sumptuous buffet lunch welcomed us. The place looks clean and well-maintained. Stunning landscapes and spectacular views. There are also lots of beach chairs for you to sit on and relax. Feels good. Time off to recharge my batteries. I needed this break. God, I needed this. Added to that, I am a big beach person. Life hit us down so hard and we all need to get out of our daily routine and relax once in a while. I didn't get some great pictures.  Here are just a few.

I absolutely love this shot

The Pasalubong Culture

Whenever anybody I know leaves (either after being away for long time to work, a mall or business trip, or even simply after travelling around the country for a vacation) I often tell them “pasalubong ko”. This is the quintessential line. It doesn’t really have to be something extravagant or expensive. Who wouldn't love pasalubong? It's so ingrained in our culture  rooted deep down at the heart of society that will never go awayIf one forgets to bring pasalubong, it is certain that he will have to deal with tampuhan, which is basically a kind of irrational feeling of being "taken for granted" on the part of those who expected a pasalubong from someone but did not get any. In its broadest sense, the pasalubong I pertain to here will solely be on one way of showing thoughtfulness to one's family when he or she comes back from work. As a kid, that the ‘pasalubong’ was meant to say, “I’m home, I remembered you.” Growing up and even until this day, mommy and daddy would always hand me and my baby sister something they bought on their way home. Nothing makes me happier than a loved one coming back home, safe and sound, with my pasalubong in their hands. When I started earning, people at home can attest to the fact that I love giving them stuffs no matter how big or small that is. It's not really the grandness that matters, rather the thought that counts. Remember that pasalubong is always the act of giving without compensation.

I thought I’d share the foods that I bought for pasalubong:
Assored pies from Conti's

cheese rolls from Mary Grace

Krispy Kreme

assorted bread from Sinfully

gummy worms and sour tapes from Candy corner

Yummy in my tummy

Howdy folks! Well, the insane amount of workload I've taken on this month has rendered me completely MIA from not just the blog but most other areas of my life. Here is the compilation of my favorite things I turn to for comfort when feeling  strained or stressed because of my so-called, Busy life.

Just because I’m drinking coffee doesn’t mean I’m like the rest of the addicts.
Ta-hooo! morning happiness
sweet and sugary foods looks so good after a day’s work!
Like who doesn't LOVE ICE CREAM!
Beyond any doubt, mom’s cooking is the best.
corn on the cob
Because sometimes Stik-o is not available in any grocery store.

I have a ton more food photos and will keep posting them (they take forever to load here).

Feliz Cumpleanos

Joan's post-birthday celebration at Seafood Island in SM Mall of Asia along with Leo's dormers. It was her 21th. There were 5 of us stayed in Mcdo till 5:30 in the morning. It was a bunch of fun. I've got to say that. It really was. We really did have a good laugh.
